Hanukkah Lesson Plans

Bringing the Hanukkah Spirit Into Your Elementary School Classroom

By Beth Lewis, About.com

This year, the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah will be celebrated starting at sundown on Sunday, December 21, 2008, and it lasts for 8 days.

Consider reading a Hanukkah book to your students, teaching them a little about the holiday and who celebrates it, and concluding with a simple activity that showcases some of the symbolism of the holiday, including the menorah, dreidel, and Hanukkah gelt candy.

If you want to get more advanced and involved, you can bring in a real menorah, make latkes together, and spin the dreidel with your students.
